Mechanism of Action

Unlike medications that only manage symptoms, Donanemab aims to alter the course of the disease itself. It works by targeting and clearing out existing amyloid-beta plaques in the brain. By removing these toxic proteins, the goal is to slow down the progressive cognitive and functional decline associated with Alzheimer's.

The TRAILBLAZER-ALZ Clinical Program Primary Focus & Methodology
TRAILBLAZER-ALZ The initial phase that demonstrated significant plaque clearance and a slowing of cognitive decline in early-stage patients.
TRAILBLAZER-ALZ 2 A larger, Phase 3 trial focusing on definitive long-term outcomes, cognitive preservation, and safety monitoring (particularly regarding ARIA, or amyloid-related imaging abnormalities).
