The Role of Biomarkers

Modern medicine has shifted toward detecting the disease before severe symptoms appear. Researchers focus on two primary proteins:

  • Amyloid Plaques: Protein fragments that accumulate in the spaces between nerve cells.
  • Tau Tangles: Twisted fibers of another protein that build up inside cells.

Modern Diagnostics

Physicians now use advanced tools leading to earlier and more accurate diagnoses, including:

  • Amyloid PET imaging to visually identify plaques in the brain.
  • Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) testing to measure the levels of tau and amyloid.
